‘Tis the season

Yes, store-bought cookies, sweets, and treats are a safe and easy route for holiday season gift-giving. Setting aside time to cook can be a separate mission within itself. Even so, it’s still always nice to opt for the homemade goods and send along something that has a personal touch. Something that required dirtying up your whole kitchen to produce with love!

And on that note, half the battle is presentation. A little bit of parchment paper, nice string, and cute handwritten tags go a long way. Here are some ideas with the full package to get you inspired and cooking. Chocolate salami?! Yes, please, now, thanks. Also, granola is always a no-brainer option because a) it’s simple to make, b) who doesn’t like granola? and c) it’s easy to package nicely, and d) you can make it healthy! You can also get really creative with your granola by mixing in anything. Coconut, cacao nibs, dried figs–all of it.

Chocolate Salami via PBS

  • 10 oz dark bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) salted butter
  • 1/2 cup almonds (can be slivered almonds if you wish)
  • 1/4 cup shelled pistachios
  • 1/4 candied ginger
  • 1/2 cup crushed homemade or store-bought amaretti cookies (or any kind of crispy cookies – not chewy – will do the trick)
  • 1 tbsp fresh grated organic orange rind
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp amaretto (or liqueur of choice)
  • 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 Tbsp confectioner’s sugar (for rolling, if you don’t have any, pulse regular sugar in a coffee grinder for 15 to 20 seconds)

Pistachio Date Balls via Sweet Paul

  • 7.5 oz Medjool dates, pits removed
  • 7.5 oz almonds, grinded
  • ½ orange, juice only
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • 2.5 oz pistachios, unsalted,
  • finely chopped

Lemony Lemon Bread via Glorious Treats

~ For the Lemon Cake ~

  • 1 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 8 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup grated lemon zest (from about 4 lemons)
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cups (4 sticks) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/2 cup sour cream, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

~ For the Lemon Syrup ~

  • 1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup sugar

~ For the Lemon Glaze ~

  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 4-6 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice

Coffee Roasted Almond + Toasted Coconut Dark Chocolate Bark via Half Baked Harvest

  • 1 1/2 cups whole raw almonds
  • 1 cup pistachios
  • 1/2 cup fresh ground coffee beans
  • 1 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 16 ounces dark chocolate, chopped, divided
  • 1 1/2 cups unsweetened flaked coconut, toasted
  • flaked sea salt, for topping

Cinnamon Granola via Migalha Doce

  • 3 cups oatmeal
  • 100g nuts
  • 60g seeds (pumpkin, sesame or sunflower)
  • 60ml honey
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
