Everyday there seems to be a new miracle drug or weight loss promise—a tea, seed, powder, liquid, juice, vegetable, grain, anything! Well here’s to exploring one that always tops the charts ( and with good reason!)
Chia seeds. They look like poppy seeds, like tiny black dots. The good thing is you can throw them into any food (yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, veggies, baked goods) without really tasting them. Nutritionally, this seed provides several benefits: fiber, omega fatty acids, calcium, antioxidants and protein. The main spotlight is the fiber, which helps slow digestion and makes you feel fuller longer and helps crave our appetites (the slow digestion is also said to potentially help those with type-2 diabetes).
Here are a few simple recipes. PS, chia pudding is really easy to make! You just have to get used to the consistency… Or you can get the pre-made kind (like these chia pods, which are sold at Whole Foods)
