Bye Bye Boring
…and Hello Hardcore. For those moments where the last thing you want to see or mount is another treadmill. Or elliptical machine. Or stairmaster. There’s rowing, and the good news is that you don’t even have to jump in the water to experience it. City Row is a pretty awesome studio with stationary rowing bikes that give you a killer workout. I promise you will be sore for two days.
If you really, really want to be sore and feel the burn, Barry’s Bootcamp can probably make or break you. This high-intensity, no breaks, half treadmill and half weights class has spread throughout New York, Miami, London, Norway, California, and more. On days where I just go for it, I tell myself I deserve a cookie. Or five.
Spinning is another one of those high intensity love it or hate it kind of classes. I’m partial to Flywheel (though many are team Soul Cycle, and that’s okay too!) Killer workout, with some jamming music and arm weights in the mix.
Looking for something a little different? For New Yorkers, Banana Skirt Productions offers everything from Missy Elliott to Beyonce classes-mimicking the exact choreography so…you’re basically Beyonce for an hour.
Okay, and than this one is kind of the little secret that I want to keep on the down low so the classes don’t get too packed. It’s been in the spotlight ever since Gigi Hadid, Kendall and Cara started boxing there, so…the secret is out. Gotham Gym is the ultimate boxing gym if you need to throw some punches. The other boxing option is Overthrow, which is a cool new underground spot that will make you sweaty, out of breath and in shape.
