I haven’t had a lot of time to myself recently as I’ve been covering Art Basel Miami for Rachel Zoe. But don’t you fret, I have it all covered for you too in a little “Natacha’s Diary” Art Basel edition that’ll soon be online for you to read on TheZoeReport.com.
But before leaving for Miami, I was lucky enough to participate in an INCREDIBLE event!!! Every year, WWD/Footwears News hosts an Oscar ceremony celebrating the year’s best shoes and/or shoe designers. This year, the talented Gianvito Rossi (and yes, I do mean Sergio Rossi’s son!) took home the grail of the night: the “Designer of the Year” award! Very well deserved, this award is the industry’s recognition of Gianvitto’s talent and immense success since the launch of his brand in 2007. The ceremony took place last Tuesday in New York, and I had the honor to introducing him and presenting him with the award! I won’t hide the immense pride I take in being an ambassador to this brand that I greatly enjoy and admire. I could talk about it forever, but instead here is the speech I gave for the ceremony!
Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen.
I am very honoured to be here tonight to present the 2013 Designer of The Year Award.
My fellow countryman , Yves Saint-Laurent once said that “the most important thing about a dress is the woman who is wearing it.” Tonight’s Award winner has gone beyond St Laurent’s quote in creating shoes not as a banal accessory but as a spectacular extension of the female body: a pure and tapered form, which is the essence of beauty and sensuality.
His brand echoes modern design and glamour with family tradition and Italian elegance.
He already had an iconic family name synonymous with femininity and luxury and he had the challenge to make a first name for himself ; With persistence, determination and talent he has greatly succeeded.
Ladies and gentlemen please warmly welcome to stage the Designer of the Year Monsieur GIANVITO ROSSI !
Here is the link to the complete article covering the night 🙂
I was wearing a dress by the fabulous French designer Sophie Theallet, also known as Michelle Obama’s protégée, jewelry by DeGrisogono that would have made any princess weaken at the knees, and the ultimate femmes fatale sandals by the man of the hour 😉
I’ll leave you with a few words dedicated to my friend Sophie that I couldn’t thank enough for all her wonderful help in this project…
Have a great weekend everyone!
